bloody monkey bars!!!

This little girl (6) came to the clinic with a blister on the palm of her hand which consequently became infected so we had to treat it with a nasty big painful penicillin needle which she of course didn't like. Unfortunately the next day she came back to have it checked and it was worse...IV antibiotics,,,,,
At first I thought this Mum was incredibly over protective as she didn't want her daughter to go through any more pain and said no to the IV.... in fact I judged her and was a little cross with her because she wasn't controlling the little one age 3. But when she brought her 16 year old in the next day and I asked why the big gap in ages she sadly told me she did have a son and he would have been 18 however at 8 years old he was playing with a hunting gun which killed him.......
Everyone has a story....and sometimes it's what shapes the rest of their life in one way or the other. Too over protective ????
never!!!!

  1. The one thing that I have acknowledged from this beautiful, strong lady is that she has trust in you to work with her children. She may be over protective which we're all guilty of with our children but to bring her teenage son into the clinic as well meant that she trusts you. I know from readings that it is very difficult for most indigenous people to trust and communicate especially such personal life stories. xxx
