This is moonshine Gorge..not a long walk and nobody there so we had a great swim...

 Boab trees will always be my favourite now...they are interesting how they bottle at bottom..they have an unusual nut that is the size of a medium to large egg plant (same shape too)...the inside use to be crushed down and used for flour ....

 When I first sighted this I thought it was some left over ritual practice because the white debris you can see is actually animal bones. However Funk 'n' Wagnal (Daryl) informed be  that this was the Bower Birds mating markers. As you can see further in the photo's below the bones are carefully placed leading up to the fine architecture of nest. Apparently the Bower bird only collects white or Green objects to attract his partner.

Elquestro.....wow

The reception at Home Valley was very ordinary but I didn't think much about it until.....Elquestro!!!!
This was a journey 50 klms backward to simply check out the  gorges. Sooo glad we did. The staff on reception were absolutely soooo inviting and really knew their stuff about the place...Heaps of activities for families...bush culture and history tours, helicopter adventures, horseback riding and heaps of gorges.
We didn't venture the restaurant or do anything more than explore the gorges, eat and drink beers at happy hour. Elquestro Gorge was our favourite...a long and hot walk but worth it.....

 It was supposed to be an hours walk but we did it in probably half hour. It was hot but a lot of it was shaded thank goodness.

 there must be a lizard or ???something here...doesn't look that interesting.....

 Climbing over this rock took another hours walk but I couldn't get up the wall of the rock....my excuse was I didn't have the correct shoes on....next time I guess as I believe it is more beautiful.

Home Valley Station & Elquestro

We chose to take the cheaper camping sites on the river because we wanted privacy however it was pretty ordinary and not may big shaded trees. Daryl wanted to fish so it was a good spot for him but Crocodile infested so he had to be careful.
It was pretty hot and hard to get settled and pick a reasonable site with enough shade in the morning mainly...waking up in that rooftop tent (or any tent) in the sun isn't a great start to my day....
40 degrees today and little to no breeze.
There weren't a lot of people around I guess because the main part of the station was equipped with a restaurant and swimming pool...but that was ok UNTIL....a car load of young 20+ year olds rocked up and camped virtually right next to us. We thought the worst .....loud music ...drunken loud behaviour, but not so.
I got talking to a couple of them the next day when they were washing their dishes....they were a group that met working together at a Roadhouse ?? somewhere and thought to take off and camp the Gibb River. 3 lads and a girl - all from different countries. I thanked them for being respectful in the camp place - they said they usually are but they use the group to their advantage...crank up the music and get noisy to put people off camping near them...especially oldies....it was nice to know we weren't in that category.......yet!
First proper shower in 5 days...went all out and washed my hair..... No need to use hot water here....the cold water tap is tepid ...just beautiful ....

Oh and...no fish!

Gibb River Holiday

This amazing camp spot is an hour out of Halls Creek called Saw Pit Gorge.... a reasonably deep water hole when we were there but usually very deep after 'the rains'. We stayed here for 2 nights as I really needed to chill a bit....hmm a lot.
We got a great little camp site here tucked away in the shade...that's priority when we set up camp...make sure you know where the morning sun will shine because it is so uncomfortable in a roof top tent....or any tent for that matter.
People came and went just to swim for the day...no fees either which was a bonus. We met some lovely people. Most people living up here are originally from another state...a very transient place to live...no real ownership except for the real locals of course!

Gibb River Holiday

There are many people that would be familiar with this place...In an endeavour to capture Halls Creek Caravan Park I also captured a beautiful sunset. This time of year there are less people around....BECAUSE IT'S TOO BLOODY HOT!!!!

 This was such a beautiful place....the track leading to the gorge is not for the faint hearted but worth every bit to see the magnificent rock fronts, palms, ferns and what usually is a water fall but an amazing shower of water like rain drops...quite spectacular from both sides of the shower....
